December 6, 2012 LA-Long Beach Terminals Resume Operations On December 5, 2012, the Journal of Commerce (JOC) announced that the ten terminals in the Los Angeles-Long Beach Port, which were closed since last Wednesday, reopened today. This came as a result of a contract agreement reached by the Office Clerical Union (OCU) and the Pacific Maritime Association (PMA), with the assistance of two federal mediators. On November 27, 2012, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) issued a press release announcing that the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) and the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in the U.S. (TECRO) reached a mutual recognition agreement between Taiwan's Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) and the U.S.'s Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT). According to the release, "The arrangement recognizes the compatibility between the Taiwan and U.S. cargo security programs and acknowledges that Directorate General of Customs, Taiwan Ministry of Finance and CBP will accept the security status of members of the other program." The press release notes that the C-TPAT program aims to build relationships between businesses and the U.S. government to enhance the supply chain and border security. Currently, the U.S. has signed mutual recognition agreements with New Zealand, Canada, Jordan, Japan, Korea and the European Union. The full text of the press release is available online at:
On November 29, 2012 Mexico's Ministry of Foreign Relations published an embargo applicable for imports and exports from and to a certain countries and organization in order to comply with rulings issued by the United Nations (UN). The countries and organizations which fall under this embargo are: The embargo consists on a list of 47 statistical breakouts from chapters 87, 88, 89, 90 and 93 covering tanks and armored vehicles, helicopters, aircrafts and parts thereof, parachutes, binoculars, flight simulators, telescopic sights for weapons, periscopes, telescopes for machines, battle ships, weapons and others.
